Hugh & Susie

Our engagement

Hugh proposed on 1st Decemeber in London. Such a small sentence, such great results. How did the best laid plans go ..?

Hugh's story

Susie had been dropping subtle hints for a while (‘What lovely flowers! Not as nice as a ring though’), and as we'd both booked a few days off work, I started making a plan.

Prague? Too cold. London Eye? Too metalic. London ? Hmmm....

So on damp Friday morning we caught the train to Charing Cross, and after checking into the hotel, had dinner in an Italian restaurant near the theatres. One fantastic show later, the Big Event was looming near.

By that time the nerves were showing, and to distract myself we went on a giant horses merry-go-round in Covent Garden. It was so much fun I almost proposed to Susie there and then.

A stroll onto the Golden Juliblee Bridge at around 11pm had me stopping Susie and — casting a quick glance around — slowly saying the words…

“There's a reason why I've bought you here...”

I could feel myself stalling.

“… and that reason is …”

More stalling.

“ …to ask you a question …”

Maybe she'd like a cup of tea?

“Iwanttospendtherestofmylifewithyou. Will you marry me?”

Pfft. Easy.

Susie's story

The night before, Hugh asked what I wanted to do for the weekend, and I said I didn't mind really. He told me just as well, as he'd arranged for us to go and see the Lion King in London - good start to the weekend already!

So, we caught the train to London on Friday morning, checked in at the lovely (4* he keeps reminding me) hotel and went for a look around The Strand and across the Thames. We then went for a bite to eat in a lovely little Italian before the show.

The Lion King was amazing and I loved every minute of it! Afterwards, we wandered around Covent Garden and had a ride on the carosel with lots of other couples all having a laugh.

The day had been wonderful in every way, and I was very happy as we walked back to the hotel. Hugh then suggested we pop down to the bridge from earlier to see how it looked at night all lit up.

There we were on Golden Jubile bridge looking at the houses of parliment and the London eye when Hugh said it wasn't the only reason he asked me here and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and would I marry him!

My answer was YES!!! He then gave me a gorgeous gold ring and said that we would go ring shopping for a proper one tomorrow! So not only was it the perfect day, but a perfect weekend because we all know girls love shopping and love diamonds!
